Iceoplex Escondido Skating School Class Descriptions

Tots (Ages 3 - 5)
This class is designed for little ones to have fun and get introduced to skating. We work on the proper way to fall down and get up, standing by themselves, and being able to move on their own.

Tots 2 (Ages 3 – 5)
For the little skaters who have completed Tots. The curriculum will follow the Pre – Alpha level.

Pre-Alpha (Ages 6 to 15)
This class is for the beginning skater who has never had skating lessons before. Skaters will learn basic forward and backward skating, swizzles, 2-foot glides, 1-foot glides, and snowplow stops. If skaters are ready, they will be prepared for the Alpha level.

Alpha (6 years and Over)
This class is open to any skater who has passed the Pre-Alpha level. Skaters will learn controlled forward stroking, forward crossovers, and 1-foot snowplow stops. If skaters are ready, Beta elements will be introduced.

Beta (All Ages6 years and Over)
This class is open to all skaters who have passed the Alpha level. Skaters learn more backward skating and T-Stops. If skaters are ready, Gamma elements are introduced.

Gamma/Delta (6 years and Over)
This class is two levels in one and is open to any skater who has passed Beta. For Gamma, skaters will learn, 3-turns, mohawks, and hockey stops. In Delta, they will learn inside 3-turns, forward edges, lunges, shoot the ducks, and bunny hops. Freestyle 1 elements will be introduced.

Freestyle 1-2 (6 years and Over)
This is two levels in one. Skaters will learn fundamentals of free skating; including backward edges, ½ jumps, spirals and spins.

Freestyle 3-4 (6 years and Over)
Skaters will learn more advanced sills building on what they learned in Freestyle 1-2. Full jumps will be introduced along with more spins.

Freestyle 5-6 (6 years and Over)
Skaters will learn various jumps, spins, footwork, and artistic maneuvers in preparation for competitive skating. Skaters working on Axels may take this class.

Beginner Adult Skating (Ages 16 and Over)
This class is for adult and teen skaters with little or no experience. Skaters will learn forward and backward skating plus other basics skills.

Adult 2 (Ages 16 and Over)
This class is geared towards the adult skater who has mastered basic skills and is ready for jumps and spins.

Adult 3-4 (Ages 16 and Over)
Skaters will master forward and backward crossovers, edge and footwork. Jumps and spins will also be performed.

Hockey Tots (Ages 3- 6)
This is class is designed for aspiring hockey players! Skaters will learn basic hockey skating skills. Full gear is not required. This class must be taken in order to try out for our in-house hockey leagues.

Beginner Hockey (Ages 6 and Over)
This class is designed for aspiring hockey players! Skaters learn basic hockey skating skills. Full gear is not required. This class must be taken in order to try out for our in-house hockey leagues.

Parent and Me (Ages 3 and Over)
This class is designed for little ones to have fun with their parents and learn basic skating skills. We incorporate games, toys, and drawings on the ice to teach them basic skills while having fun! Parents and skaters can have fun learning together!

Power Skating (Please see director if skater is eligible)
This class is designed for skaters to build stamina and agility while having fun skating to music non-stop for 30 minutes.

Introduction to Synchronized Skating (Freestyle 1 and up)
This class teaches the fundamentals of synchronized skating. They learn to skate synchronized with other skaters while creating patterns and shapes on the ice.
